Scarhaven ‘Changing’ EP cover: a bare tree against a dark red sky

Scarhaven's EP 'Changing'

Scarhaven Brings Back the Wall of Sound

Scarhaven frontman Michael Saint might be tired of hearing it, but if anyone has ever channeled Chris Cornell, it’s him.

I say that with the greatest respect because Cornell had one of the best voices in rock music.  In case you feel I’m being hyperbolic regarding Saint’s ability, listen to this:

Meet Scarhaven, NYC’s grunge revivalists

Known for distorted riffs and growling vocals, Scarhaven is a four-piece grunge revival band that got its start in DC and relocated to New York City.

I’ve already introduced you to Michael Saint on vocals.  Scarhaven also features Matt Kilroy on guitar and a rhythm section of Jared Edson playing bass and Michael “Shap” Shapira behind the drum kit.  The band officially formed in 2025 and has been busy dropping music ever since.

Scarhaven leaves behind the sterile sound of modern music and takes us back to a time when grunge and alternative ruled the airwaves.  It feels like something that’s been missing for a long time has finally returned.

You could tag it as nostalgia, but it’s more than that. Scarhaven’s music has genuine substance and refuses to bend to the formula.

‘Changing’ EP

April 2026 brought the release of Scarhaven’s EP Changing. The six-track EP includes “I’m Not Dead Yet” (from above), and “Drowned” which opens with only clean guitar, a cymbal and Saint’s voice.  His grit and soaring vocals shine, along with Kilroy’s guitar prowess.

Since Changing, Scarhaven has released “Clouds,” my personal favorite. This is “wall of sound” turned up to 11.

Is a Scarhaven album coming?

In the “Clouds” YouTube video comments, one fan wished for a full album.  The band’s official account replied, “Stay Tuned!”

I’m just reporting what I saw.  You can interpret it however you want.  All I know is, I’m with that fan!
